Every summer, kids from pre-k to High School can sign-up for our Summer Reading program. This year’s theme is The Adventure Begins at Your Library. For 2024, stop by Solvay Library anytime between June 24 and August 19 to have a staff member sign you up and give you your Summer Reading Kit, which comes with your first book you can keep! Every five books you read you enter of new Summer Reading Level and receive a prize. The five levels are Beginner, Amateur, Pro, All-Star, and MVP. Just because you reached the top level, don’t stop recording your reading because our top reader will be getting the grand prize and title of Adventurer. At the end of the summer everyone who recorded at least one book will have a chance for great prizes from local businesses.

Craft Day and Game Day will be returning, so be sure to check your calendar inside your Summer Reading Kit.

Keep checking in for different programs we will be holding at the library or digitally on our website and Facebook page. We will also be regularly posting different projects and activities you can do from home all summer!

For the first time ever, you can also sign-up for the Reading Pays Story Time! Solvay Bank is presenting this story time for kids in elementary school. After listening to a new book each week, you will do activities based on the book. Children who attend every session will get a special prize in the end!

We also have our first ever Junior Book Club on Mondays at 3 pm starting July 8th, where we will be discussing and doing activities on the graphic novel Roller Girl!

Yes! You CAN count eBooks in the Summer Reading Program. You can download them for free from the Libby App. Look under the “Kids & Teens” section. Did you know you can read them on your smart phone or any tablet?
