Library Manager

One year as Library Manager in the books and so much has been done here at Solvay Library.

First off, let’s talk about programming. Children’s programming is more abundant and active than ever, working closely with all 3 of the schools in Solvay to better fill the needs of the youth. We also have revitalized teen and tween programs, with regular game and different themed Teen Nights. Once again, we work with the High School and their drama department to have trivia and other nights based on their plays and musicals. Lastly, working with different local organizations and businesses, there are all sorts of different programs and seminars for adults and seniors. From painting and crafting to financial and health sessions, we are trying to have diverse options for the entire community.

Next, let’s move to our collection. With a much more diverse selection in both Fiction, Large Print, Non-Fiction, and Biographies, we hope we fill the needs of whatever type of book you are looking for. We also have a steadier flow of Picture, Teen and Chapter books for the younger readers. With technology always changing, we are trying to keep up with our Blu-Ray collection, new WonderBooks for kids, Tech Packs with Chromebooks and Wifi Hotspots, and an ever-expanding collection of e-books and audiobooks on the Libbyapp. Once the weather starts warming up again, do not forget about our Empire and Explorer Park passes to visit all our wonderful county and state parks.

Lastly, I want to talk about our improved relationship with the community. We have been teaming up more and more with local businesses, the school, organizations and the village itself to increase the reach and promotion of the library. You have probably seen us at a ton of local events like the Solvay Field Days, Bearcat Bash and any other community event. We are so proud to serve the people of Solvay, Geddes and all of Onondaga County and want to continue to help and participate in all the great events we have.

If anyone has any suggestions or questions on programming, our collection or anything about the library, please do not hesitate to email me at browlands@onlib.org, call me at 315-468-2441 or stop into the library to chat. My office is always open.

Thank you all,

Brian Rowlands, Library Manager
