Reading Pays Story Time
Every summer, kids from pre-k to High School can sign-up for our Summer Reading program. This year’s theme is Color Our World. For 2025, stop by Solvay Library anytime between June 30 and August 22 to have a staff member sign you up and give you your Summer Reading Kit, which comes with your first book you can keep! Every five books you read you enter a new Summer Reading Level and receive a prize. The five levels are Scribbler, Doodler, Artist, Bob Ross and Picasso. Just because you reached the top level, don’t stop recording your reading because our top reader will be getting the grand prize and title of Solvay Library’s Official Artiste . At the end of the summer, everyone who recorded at least one book will have a chance for great prizes from local businesses.
Dan the Snakeman, the MOST, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, The Museum of Intrigue, and Funky Town Comics and Vinyl’s Library Comic Con all return this year. G&L Music Studio joins us for the first time for LP Spin Art and the Girl Scouts of America will be here with a special Color Your Emotions story time and craft! Plus, an amazing lineup of guest readers including Senator Chris Ryan, Mayor Derek Baichi, the Solvay Police and Fire Departments, Ms. K, Mrs. Miczan and Mrs. Goehle from Solvay Elementary and Mrs. Kenific from Solvay High and the first ever librarian swap between Solvay and Fairmount libraries! Miss Patience of Fairmount will be going to Solvay and Brian of Solvay will be going to Fairmount.
If you reach the Doodler Reading Level, you will receive a Color Our World poster. Color this poster and bring it in by August 14th to be entered into our Coloring Contest and see your work displayed and the winner of the contest announced, also on August 14th at 2 p.m.
Keep checking in for different programs we will be holding at the library or digitally on our website and Facebook page. We will also be regularly posting different projects and activities you can do from home all summer!
Reading Pays Story Time! presented by Solvay Bank returns! This story time for kids in elementary school. After listening to a new book each week, you will do activities based on the book. Children who attend every session will get a special prize in the end!
