TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they’ll love. They are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sounds, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book (and some classics) which you can read, or have read to you.

You can choose from chapter books, picture books, non-English language books, and even some games & puzzles.

OCPL provides unlimited use of TumbleBooks at no charge. You do not need to have a library card to view them.

On June 14th, OCPL is updating our online catalog! Most of the cool new features will only be seen by library staff, but will enable us to provide better circulation services. One feature you will see is a more detailed display for the item locations screen.

Now you can hover over the book cover in the list of search result to see a lightbox of summary information.

JobNow. New York Library Job Information Site

The site has been enhanced with a new page for job seekers and a link to the Internet bibliographies of the New York State Library for the job seeker and current events pages. The Job Seekers page, featuring the JobNow product, has connections to the NYS Department of Labor’s Career Zone, a resource page to job and career information in New York’s public libraries and the bibliography.

Say Cheese!

Solvay Public Library has joined the city branches in requiring a photo i.d. when you present your library card. This policy has been implemented to help secure your library account and prevent errors.

For your convenience, we have a digital camera at our desk to take your photo and attach it to your library account. We will then see your photograph when we scan your library card. Otherwise, you will have to display a drivers license or other photo i.d. For more details, please ask our staff or CameraFlyer.

New Energy & Conservation Books & DVD's!

Thanks to a grant from the Independent Energy Efficiency Program (IEEP) through the Village of Solvay Electric Department, the Library has started a public education program about energy conservation and alternative energy sources. With the grant, the Library purchased a special collection of books and DVD’s on this topic and hosted several children’s program. Many of the books are about remodeling your home and money saving advise.

The books and brochures are located on a designated shelf in the elevator lobby and have a “fluorescent light bulb” sticker on the spine. The display has information about energy saving initiatives for Solvay Electric customers, and conservation education pamphlets for the general public.
